Children are vital to the church.  We believe in investing our best efforts and resources in them.

A typical Sunday starts with a variety of movement for our kids.  They can dance and/or wave flags while we sing.  There is an activity table set up in the gathering where they can colour, complete mazes, dot-to-dots or word searches.  A Children’s Moment pulls the kids together for a mini lesson, and prayer before they head off to their group.

ForgeKids (ages 3 – 12) The most important thing for kids to learn is that Jesus loves them and is the very best friend they can have. They experience this through activities, songs, stories and games. We use awesome curriculum to do this in a fun, interactive way!

The goal is that our children grow in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, develop Christian character in their lives, and establish friendships with other children. The children gain a solid foundation of knowledge from the Bible and are taught how to apply it to their lives.

All of our volunteer team have undergone a Criminal Record Check.

tfc-bbbDid you notice those three words tucked up in the right hand corner of the home page?  Small, but very significant words, each with a very specific purpose and intention.  They are critical to our journey and yours as we make our way through life.  What is the basic and most important need of every human being?  To be loved.  In the world as we know it, this is often a void within a person’s heart that is left vacant and felt profoundly.  We long to see that void filled within you as it has been in us.  People cannot fill it, or careers, things or money.  We’ve all seen tons of examples around us that are evidence of that.

We say it during our gatherings, it’s on our signs, it part of our logo: You belong here. Our hope is that we provide a place, a family and refuge, where anyone can belong and be accepted, loved and encouraged.

We love our City and serve our friends and neighbors. As we walk with people through their struggles we point them to the cross and the gospel, which has transformed our lives.  It is this, the golden nugget of truth – the gift of Jesus and the power of his love in our lives – that is at the crux of our faith.

Behavior is the fruit of belief. Once we exchange the belief in lies for truth, our behavior can change. Often that takes time. And that’s okay. The ongoing work of the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer is not a linear path from messy to unmessy. It’s often two steps forward three steps back. And that’s okay. But the Forge is here to help believers become what God intends: to “become conformed to the image of His Son” (Romans 8:29). This could take a lifetime, but we’re all about equipping people for following Jesus and serving out of that relationship; to walk out their life with purpose, passion with a clear sense of being loved.

It is different, isn’t it?  The style of the logo even more so.  It was in answer to the whisper.  It meant stepping out on a limb, but we knew that we were supposed to do it.  We want to engage the whole community and it has allowed countless opportunities of dialogue.

The name has many meanings, many of which have given us direction and purpose.  To move forward; merge together; a special fireplace or hearth in which metal is heated before shaping; to fashion and mold with concentrated effort and care.  Historically, next to food and shelter, a forge was one of the most important elements in any attempt to plant a permanent settlement. Forges have traditionally been gathering places where visiting and other social activities happened.   It was a warm meeting place for villagers and travelers alike.  We want to be that place.

Our core values help us to realize our vision and are part of all we do.  They are the foundation of our identity as a community.  It is out of them that we are:

1.  COLLABORATIVE by partnering together through using a team-based approach.

2.  CREATIVE by encouraging imagination in how we do life together.

3.  A community that is COUNTER-CULTURAL by encouraging surrender and service rather than status.

4.  CROSS-CULTURAL by celebrating and embracing all nations and peoples.

5.  Surrendering our individual rights to do life together. It’s about having an attitude of servant hood; being INTERDEPENDENT.

6.  INTER-GENERATIONAL through inclusion of all ages and styles of people.

7.  INTUITIVE, meaning we are guided by the Holy Spirit and our relationships, not programs.

8.  IMPROVISATIONAL, in that we allow for spontaneity and fluidity.

9.  Deliberate an meaningful; INTENTIONAL in everything we do.

If you have young children who have not been dedicated, you don’t want to miss out on this beautiful celebration!

This is a very special and important time, both for the parents as well as the child. It’s a service where parents dedicate themselves and present their child/children to the Lord. They’re surrounded by family or friends and church family. Together, they commit the child to the Lord.

There are examples of child presentation in the Bible.   In 1 Samuel 1:27-28 we see how Hannah took her son Samuel to the temple to present him to the Lord.  Also in Luke 2:21-38 we see Mary and Joseph taking Jesus to the Temple.

While many parents present very young children, your child does not have to be an infant. You can participate no matter what your child’s age.

  • We’re presenting the child/children to God. Our prayer of presentation is that they will grow in knowledge of God and his son Jesus and that when the child/children are old enough, they would make a decision to follow him. This isn’t the salvation of a child or a “necessary spiritual step,” but rather acknowledging that we want God to be in the life of this child.
  • We’re dedicating the parents to God. God has entrusted parents to spiritually train children. The church is here to help, but ultimately the responsibility is on the parents. So we pray to dedicate mom and dad’s efforts of creating a safe and healthy environment where a child can learn about God and grow in a relationship with him. So, in this dedication, mom and dad commit to do everything within their ability to point their children to God and help them follow him.
  • We’re dedicating the friends and family to God. Children are rarely influenced by the parents alone. Family and friends have significant influence. It is the responsibility of family and friends to hold parents accountable and encourage parents in both their marriage relationship and efforts to spiritually train their children.

This is a time to celebrate the wonderful gift that God has given you and to celebrate your dependence on Him in raising your child. Family and friends will enjoy supporting you in making these commitments and in praying for your child.  So, be sure to invite those who have a loving interest in the life of your child.

“Train up a child in the way they should go and when they are old, they will not depart from it.”   Proverbs 22:6

Acceptance.  The Forge is for anyone who wants to seek God—from those exploring whether or not God even exists, to committed Christ-followers.  Wherever you are, we’re happy to have you.

It takes courage to  visit a place you’ve never been to.  It can be intimidating and feel awkward. We understand.  Lets ease any fears or apprehension you may have.  We want you to feel right at home when you visit.  This is what you will find:

We are a Baptist church and are affiliated with the Canadian Baptists of Western Canada.

We have a Gathering on Sunday mornings at 10am at 2612 Sooke Road in Langford, BC.  The church is immediately past the Jacklin & Sooke Rds. intersection.  MAC’s convenience store is at the corner, and then us.

Parking:  There is a front lot and a lower lot.  The driveway for the lower lot is immediately past the bus stop on your right, just before the church.

Dress in whatever you feel most comfortable in. We have no expectations.  Some dress casual and some fancy.  It is all good.

Our main entrance is where you want to come to.  It is by the very tall cross.  Just a few steps in and to your left is the entrance to the Sanctuary. The coffee and tea will be on and ready for you to enjoy.  It’s free and just to the left once you pass through the Sanctuary doors.  Start time is 10am.

It is informal and relaxed. To start, there will be some music.  This helps us to focus our thoughts on God, so we call is worship.  After that, announcements are made about what is happening in our community.  We’ll continue our worship through an offering.  A short break occurs to let you connect with others and to refill those cups!  Then it is time for our kids to go to their group.  We’ll worship a bit more through music. Praying together is next.  Some people will get up and go pray for someone, others will form clusters to pray together. They may pray out loud. You are not expected to do this.  Sitting quietly is completely fine too. One of our pastors will share a teaching, which may or may not include a time of open discussion.

Our ForgeKids Team provides an amazing experience of encountering God every week.  There is a sign in/out book that you will be directed to use.  It is there that you can let us know if your child has any allergies or special requirements.  If the team need to contact you during the gathering, one of the Jr leaders will come to you.  At the end of the Gathering, you pick up your child from the room and sign them out.

Humans are not meant to be alone.  That is not how we are made.  It’s been said that we’re the most connected society in history, yet we’re the loneliest.  This saddens God.  He wants us to thrive. That is why Connect Groups are important to our community.

Build relationships, make new friends, encounter Jesus and learn to follow Him, one step at a time. Be in relationship with people who are in relationship with Jesus, so your life moves in the right direction at the right speed.  Move out of loneliness into belonging.

Groups meet in homes on Tuesday evenings, Wednesday morning or evening over a meal or dessert for 1-2 hours.
